Rachel Stottmann brings this new body of work to Great Flood Brewery after a successful showing at Lydia House earlier this year. She pushes the natural world with a dreamy imagination. Wrapping fantasy and mythology into realistic settings and situations. “Hiraeth” is a noun, meaning “a homesickness for a home you cannot return to, or that never was.” Stottman’s paintings capture “hiraeth” with haunting images that seem lost in their world, yet comforted at the same time. Like a disconcerting dream that leaves you struggling to remember. Stottman’s paintings are beautifully layered with rich colors, wild markings and organic textures. There is a connecting narrative to her current work that is as interesting as it is beautiful.
