What is it about Harry Potter that makes it the perfect fodder for holiday parties? Possibly the vivid depictions of Christmas in the Great Hall in almost every film. Or, as hinted at in this event’s name, the memorable Yule Ball. Whatever it is, we’re here for it, and Louisville Free Public Library’s Main Branch is transforming into a wizardly holiday wonderland for this celebration. It’s expected to be a grand affair with muggle magic from David Garrard, ballroom dance lessons and food and drink for purchase from The Celtic Pig and Heine Brothers’ Coffee. The books will be brought to life with recreations of the Tri-Wizard Tournament and Diagon Alley. Make sure to dress in costume or “ball attire” to fit in. And, while the Harry Potter series might have originally been for children — let’s be honest, many of the most ardent fans are now adults. So, there will be a real life Hog’s Head Pub for those 21 and older to grab drinks from Against the Grain Brewery while participating in two rounds of pub-style trivia. —Danielle Grady
