What Douglas Miller’s highly detailed depictions of nature really shows us is the thought process in the art of drawing animals. His not-quite-finished quality illustrates the ebb and flow of creativity. “I work in the same way that an author revises text,” explains Miller, “continually constructing and deconstructing the story through the process of editing and correcting. Seemingly, this idea of continuous refinement relies on the pursuit for a perfected finished product. However, I rely on the provisional and the possibilities of change more than on completed resolutions. My drawings exemplify the process of refinement and change just as the natural world is endlessly being altered, rearranged, destroyed and rebuilt.”
