“A New World in My View: Gifts from Gordon W. Bailey” is an exhibition of art recently donated to the Speed Art Museum. Bailey gave 35 works of contemporary art created by 21 Southern African-American artists. Classified as folk or outsider artists, none were in the Speed’s permanent collection prior to his contribution. “This is a gift carefully crafted with the Speed Art Museum in mind,” said Miranda Lash, curator of contemporary art, “and reflects Mr. Bailey’s decades-long commitment to fostering these artists and ushering them into the canon of art history.” She met Bailey, a collector and scholar from Los Angeles, while working on another exhibition that will be shown at the Speed later this year.
