‘Movement + Context’

A group of artists running a gallery have all the responsibilities, resulting in a constant flow of exhibitions and membership changes. The artist cooperative PYRO Gallery recently added three new painters; their introductory show illustrates their interests in “Movement + Context.” After experiencing hearing difficulties as a child, Julia Davis turned to visual art to express herself. Her portraits are her way of understanding the sitter. Shawn Marshall’s use of a palette knife means thicker paint. This gives the canvas a slight three-dimensional quality, familiar territory for a former architect. Movement and change are important to Guinever Smith, resulting in paintings that reflect what she calls “the car landscape.” The opening reception is on Friday, Jan. 8 at 6-9
