How do you create a painting without painting? Megan Bickel has figured it out and has a new body of work to show for it. A little over a year ago, she “noticed a guttural, bodily excitement in arranging fabric, paint and paper in a way that physically resembled painting,” which she had not felt for years through painting. The technique helped Bickel through a rough time. She was looking for wholeness, which Jungian philosophy states is a search for completeness after a trauma. “That wholeness was being implicated through the process of ‘painting’ with materials other than paint,” she said.
