Mary Alice Hadley Art Sale

Louisville original Mary Alice Hadley painted plates and mugs with her iconic, cute illustrations of farm animals and seaside scenes, earning her much acclaim and many imitators. But the famous potter, who died in 1965, also created paintings and drawings. Recently, Hadley’s successors at the Hadley Pottery Co., still located in its original Butchertown location, found a hidden trove of 30 of Hadley’s forgotten works. The rare pieces will be for sale at this special event, complete with refreshments and a new book by local authors Warren and Julie Payne, “Louisville Modern: an era in art.” —LEO
