Visual artist and poet John Brooks integrates all of his creative capacity into his new show “A Map of Scents.” It joins his command of collage, photography and poetry to explore themes of identity, memory, death and place with an accent on emotion and transformation. Brooks is a visual artist with the heart of a poet. His paintings are in collections around the world, and his poetry is in the libraries of the Goethe-Institut in Chicago and the Literaturhaus München in Germany. Brooks can take sparse visual keys to establish mood and evoke engaging thought. The opening reception is June 12, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., with an artist talk at 7 p.m. —J. Cobb
