Part contemporary, subtle bluegrass, with an equal amount of narrative-based country-folk, Mandolin Orange walks the line between sad songs and lively musicianship. Formed six years ago in North Carolina by Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz, the duo rakes in diverse takes and eras of roots music forming a smooth and sharp sound all their own. It’s incredible how soft and slow they can consistently remain without losing your attention, which probably has to do with their detailed melodies and expert harmonies.
