The Louisville Orchestra: Music Without Borders

The Louisville Orchestra has packed up Ludwig van Beethoven and is taking him around town for three performances in the Music Without Borders series — Thursday at Ursuline Arts Center (3113 Lexington Road), Saturday at the Ogle Center at Indiana University Southeast (4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany) and March 23 at Valley High School (10200 Dixie Highway). Actually, it’s only Beethoven’s music the symphony will be presenting, with selections that stretch through the composer’s repertoire, from his first symphony, working in the format developed by Haydn and Mozart, to later works when the full Beethoven sound comes though — with stirring chords and soaring swaths of emotion. Included are bits from the sixth and eighth symphonies, the stark, almost-dark “Coriolan Overture” and a visit with the “Creatures of Prometheus.”
