As you already know, or should know, the Kentucky Derby Festival kicked off last week with Thunder Over Louisville. Now the city is being bombarded with festival events, so here is a quick rundown of the bigger festival events worth attending.
BalloonFest — April 27–29
Let’s get one thing straight — hot-air balloons are magic, OK! Thankfully, if you want to see one of these colorful, flying contraptions up close, there are two festival events for you to attend. You can see them lit up on the ground at the Balloon Glimmer at Waterfront Park on April 27 or at the Great Balloon Glow at the Kentucky Exposition Center on April 28.
Chow Wagon — April 27–May 5
Don’t let the name Chow Wagon, which evokes the image of a feeding trough, put you off of this longtime festival event. The main attraction is the festival food and food trucks. Each night, there will also be three local and regional bands playing a variety of musical genres including gospel, urban, country and rock.
BeerFest — May 3
For those of you more interested in drinking than eating, the BeerFest has you covered. Enjoy samples of regional and national craft beers, as well as a souvenir sampling glass and BeerFest pin. Now, unlike the other events that are free admission with a Pegasus pin, this event is ticketed, so make sure to check the KDF website before you show up. —Staff
