First, there’s the short drive out of town — maybe your last chance to catch what’s left of this year’s leaf color. Then, not much farther than if you’d had an errand in Shelbyville, Wendell Berry and The Berry Center welcome you with the annual day of free, open house festivities. One event has the poet/philosopher in a moderated conversation with Crystal Wilkinson. Other literary legends, including Bobbi Ann Mason and author/publisher Gray Zeitz, are on the schedule for reading and signing. The Center’s gallery is hosting an exhibition featuring several wood engravers. And if you need more to feel in step with the season, the bookstore is ready to pour you some wassail.
