Jane Austen’s ‘Persuasion’:
200 Years of Piercing Souls

There are authors, and then there are authors. Admiration for Jane Austen springs eternal, thanks to organizations such as the Jane Austen Society of North America. The Greater Louisville Region is quite active, with festivals that are the largest events devoted to her in North America. This year’s 10th-annual Jane Austen Festival is dedicated to her book “Persuasion.” On Friday, July 13 from 6 to 9 p.m., there will be a special adaptation of “Persuasion” by Sarah Rose Kearns. On Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (both days), there will be featured speakers, including “Rears and Vices: The Georgian Royal Navy” by Patrick Stokes, a descendant of Jane Austen’s brother, Rear Admiral Charles Austen. Additional programming includes workshops, a grand ball and afternoon teas.
