‘Imaginal’ by Mathias Davey

Merging the muses of the subconscious with the reality of creation can be a daunting experience for any artist. It takes a careful understanding of the mind and how it works to pull off successfully. Fortunately for us, that’s exactly what local artist Mathias Davey has accomplished. In his first solo show “Imaginal,” Davey, working with paint on wood, has created pieces that can best be described as subconscious kinetic rainbows of color. They refuse to sit still and conform to a structure, like a microscopic creature enlarged and subjected to hours of psychedelic flower power. Be warned —each piece is filled with such vibrant movement that it can be a dizzying, yet positive, experience.

‘Imaginal’ by Mathias Davey

Chasson Higdon is a writer, artist and filmmaker. At an early age, when other boys were learning about sports or cars, Chasson had his head buried in art history books or creating paintings and drawings. This trend has continued on into adulthood, where he has earned his BA in Fine Arts from Indiana University, received multiple awards for his creative endeavors and is still currently clueless about sports or cars.
