Joe McGee has spent most of his artistic life intrigued by Frida Kahlo. At 68, he’s reflecting on his attraction to the Mexican painter. “It is hard for me to explain,” he said, “but it is much more than … [a] simple connection and it did not happen overnight. [But] I can pinpoint the exact moment my general interest in Frida turned into an intense fascination that I cannot shake.” His series, over 40 paintings, is on display at Quappi Projects. The exhibition, hung salon-style, is insight into both McGee and Kahlo.
