The fabulously fabricated sculptures of Paul Nelson grace Revelry Gallery with “Hope, Fear, Fun and Tools.” Nelson uses a wide range of media including steel, cast glass, hot worked glass, wood, re-purposed antique and industrial tools and found objects from nature in his playful new work. He takes the decay and destruction of old castaway materials and creates something new, unexpected and delightful. Nelson has this to say about the new work, “The transformative nature of ‘art’ is making the impossible possible. While much of my work involves sculpting the human figure and self-portraiture, I have the most fun creating the surreal and sometimes humorously macabre context for each piece. My tools and toys also employ a bit of dark comedy, stripping them of their original function and allowing the viewer to imagine what their function might be.”
