Anyone who wants to see me and 15 others brawl, be at Butchertown Social Thursday at 7 p.m. OK, maybe not brawl exactly, but talk passionately about a book we think should be “The Great American Read.” The audience will choose a winner from each of the five-minute one-on-one debates and then choose an overall winner. I’m fighting for Alice Walker’s “The Color Purple,” and I’m up against “Pride and Prejudice.” With brawlers including Attica Scott, Tina Ward-Pugh, David Hawpe, Renee Murphy, Chris Hartman, Alex Gerassimdes and Todd Brashear pontificating it out, this might rival the fight scene in the “Outsiders.” OK, maybe not, but I believe it is your civic duty to show up and make sure “50 Shades of Grey” doesn’t win.
