With the the Grateful Dead recently wrapping up their 50th anniversary “Fare Thee Well Shows” and August 1 marking what would have been Jerry’s 73rd birthday, Monkey Wrench owner Dennie Humphrey and bartender Ashley Angel decided the time was right for a local festival celebrating the Dead. They’ve put together an incredible lineup of bands who will pay tribute with an afternoon of Dead sets: Hot Iron Skillet, the Merry Pranksters, Slow Down Johnny, Phiasco and The Rumpke Mountain Boys. Look for a row of vendors on Shakedown Street, hula hoops, spinners, Lil’ Cheezers and Momma’s Mustard and Pickles food trucks and Good Wood, Sweet Water and Cumberland Brews pouring their finest. Grateville Dead is a family-friendly event with part of the motivation for the festival being the opportunity to share the love and kindness across generations.
