Gheens Great Expectations Concert

From My Morning Jacket to our professional orchestra, local youth musicians receive support and mentoring that’s rare, if not, sadly, nonexistent elsewhere. Now, add to that list of support for youth music education, NPR’s highly acclaimed program “From the Top,” which is visiting this week. The program, which focuses on classically-trained youth musicians, will record live at a free Gheens Great Expectations Concert. Wednesday night’s event opens with the Louisville Orchestra, directed by Teddy Abrams, playing side by side with the Louisville Youth Orchestra (LYO), directed by Jason Seber. “From the Top” host Christopher O’Riley will then take the stage with a live taping (to be aired Feb. 22 on 90.5 WUOL-FM) featuring LYO and 17-year old percussionist Gregory Cole.
