Fresh Fest

One complaint I often hear from old school fans is that contemporary artists lack the diversity of subject matter that was the rule during hip-hop’s Golden Age. Rap radio is currently so enamored with odes to luxury, drugs and loveless sex that it is hard to believe it once embraced the poetical lyricism of Rakim (“Paid In Full”), the PG antics of Kid N’ Play (“House Party”) and the experimentalism of Das Efx (“They Want EFX) at the same time. All three of these artists — along with Keith Murray and Nice & Smooth — will be in Louisville this weekend for the 3rd Annual Fresh Fest. Former “Yo! MTV Raps” host Ed Lover will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Tickets are available at Better Days West, Exclusive Wear & Treasures in Jefferson Mall. Come out, throw your hands in the air and wave them like you just don’t care. Somebody say, “Oh, yeah!”
