‘Forum Confusio’ by John Begley

John Begley spent many years as an art educator and gallery director at UofL’s Hite Art Institute, was a past director of the Louisville Visual Art (Association), co-founded the Zephyr Gallery and helped promote Louisville’s Commission on Public Art. Whew! Now that he is retired, he’s returned to his first love, creating art by way of drawing, printmaking, book arts, installation and mixed media. In his exhibition “Forum Confusio,” he’s happily confused himself. Luckily, he gives viewers a long list of words to define his state. His “manifesto” states, “I am for confounded art! Consarn it. … So now, I am confused … ergo, I must be making confound art. With apologies to Bob Dylan, I do intend to ‘confound expectations.’”
