“The future of slam has something to say,” according to Mackenzie Berry, executive director of Young Poets of Louisville, which is hosting the Floetic Friday Youth Poetry Slam at Local Speed for young people ages 13-19. It will be the last slam of the regular season before next month’s slam will determine the six young poets that will represent Louisville on the international stage at the Brave New Voices International Poetry Festival this summer. “In raising their voices to engage in conversation with the community, these young poets are becoming socially engaged and artistic leaders with literary, public speaking and performance skills,” Berry says. Young Poets of Louisville offers free writing workshops twice a month led by local teaching artists.Sign up to slam and get more info at www.youngpoets502.org.
