Jessica Gordon Nembhard

Starting a business or community venture is intimidating and fraught with traps. And the path to success can be steep, despite hard work, with impediments based on nothing but skin color. Nembhard, a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, is an authority on how people have done better for themselves and each other by having to go it alone. She’ll discuss her book “Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice.”
