‘Deck the Walls 2015’

My first skateboard was a two-and-a-half-foot-long, one-inch-thick massive beast. The deck was bright yellow with red wheels and had a magnificent fire-breathing dragon emblazoned across the bottom. After many scrapes and bruises attempting to ollie the monster, I limped away from skateboarding forever, but I never forgot about that awesome dragon. This is what the “Deck the Walls” event showcases — the art of the skateboard deck. This annual show displays painted and modified decks, curated from open submissions, by professional and amateur artists from around the area. This year’s event, in association with Revelry Boutique Gallery, is at VIA Studio, an advertising and digital design agency in NuLu.

‘Deck the Walls 2015’

Chasson Higdon is a writer, artist and filmmaker. At an early age, when other boys were learning about sports or cars, Chasson had his head buried in art history books or creating paintings and drawings. This trend has continued on into adulthood, where he has earned his BA in Fine Arts from Indiana University, received multiple awards for his creative endeavors and is still currently clueless about sports or cars.
