David McCraw

To accept a position as counsel for The New York Times, you’ve got to be spoiling for a fight. David McCraw’s been with the paper since 2002, and he’s had tussles aplenty. His new book “Truth in Our Times” is part memoir (highlight: pushing back against the Trump presidential campaign’s call for retraction) and part examination of the relationship between the First Amendment and today’s journalism. McCraw’s talk at the Kentucky Author Forum will likely address the principled strategies and tactical hard work necessary to drain the hot air out of accusations of “fake news.” Interesting sidenote: MSNBC legal analyst Chuck Rosenberg — interviewer at this event — formerly served as counsel to Robert Mueller.

New Jersey–expatriate T.E. Lyons reconnected with the written word coincident with the arrival of his first child. His byline has since appeared on over a thousand reviews, previews, features, and fiction pieces–and a clutch of journalism awards. Favorite interview questions: “What’s your idea of good country music?” and “Do you think that last question was meant to bait you?” Reading and listening suggestions always welcome.
