‘Botanicals’ By Laurie Tennent

What better place to see photographs of botanicals than at a botanical garden? Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is showing 13 images by Laurie Tennent, who specializes in flowering plants, as well as portraits. You might say she specializes in portraits of both botanicals and humans, for she describes the plants using human characteristics. “Complexity of character, masculine and feminine, intimate yet bold, sensual yet strong,” Tennent said. “My photographs are an exploration of these dualities.” The photographs are printed on aluminum and can be displayed indoors and outside. The exhibition has been traveling across America, with stops at Cranbrook House & Gardens in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, the Chicago Botanic Garden and others, including Yew Dell.
