Black History Month: African-American Art

Fifth Annual African-American Read-In (Feb. 25)  |  Shively Library, Louisville Free Public Library  |  3920 Dixie Highway  |  |  Free  |  6:30-8 p.m.

All too often African-American artists and leaders are overlooked for their white contemporaries. This is a chance to recognize the work of black luminaries with dramatic readings and performances of their art by Louisville creatives.

Oh Freedom! Concert (Feb. 26)

Members of the Kentucky Opera will take you through a vocal history of black music: from the songs of West Africa to the emotional anthems that inspired the civil rights movement. It’s a taste of what’s to come in 2019 as the Carnegie Center kicks off a year of interpreting African-American history through the arts.
