When I think of wood sculpture, I think of sculpture made out of wood. But when Michael James Moran makes wood sculpture, he’s thinking more about the wood than the sculpture, all the way back to the trees. And he’s making us think about it too. Moran specializes in book-matching, the act of joining two wood planes together. He titles them “apparitions” and it’s easy to see why. He’s a custom furniture maker by trade and his art in “Binding What’s Lost” is an offshoot of that. Examples of his furniture, made in collaboration with Pappy & Company, are also on display. The opening reception is Friday, March 9 from 5-9 p.m.; the gallery is open by appointment at other times.
