Back in the day, kids like me begged their parents to take them to Guntown Mountain in Cave City. We wanted to go in that haunted hotel, see a live shootout, ride that ski lift. Will Russell’s renovation is bringing it back, starting June 19, with a reopening of what will now be called Funtown Mountain! Your ticket to the Big Funraiser supports completion of Phase I — the ski lift and haunted hotel, plus an animatronic band that’ll sing MMJ songs, a Hillbilly Tea, a Why Louisville shop, a pop culture museum and more! The real, bona fide Dancin Outlaw, Jesco White, will be there, along with Elvis (if you’ve seen the documentary, you know that might get strange), music by the Rock-afire Explosion and DJ Shit Show, burlesque and even some live chicken magic. Even in these here parts, it just doesn’t get much more wonderfully weird than this.
