A community is more than the sum of its parts. It’s also composed of the intangible aspects that haunt its streets. In his latest show “It Is So Beautiful Here,” John Brooks proves he is well traveled and knowledgeable in the differences that build culture by crafting sensuous portraits that are the embodiment of lively communities from around the world. Each piece, named for a different area Brooks has visited, is a singular portrait that takes the less tangible aspects of places and gives them shape and form. Sometimes bright and colorful, and sometimes dark and mysterious, each piece gives the viewer an understanding of the prevailing spirit found in these communities. To view them is to understand that it truly is so beautiful here.
