‘AquaVenture 2018’

“AquaVenture,” as the name suggests, is what the Kentucky Watercolor Society, or KWS, calls “a water-based media show.” Watercolor paintings are featured, of course, but gouache and acrylic are, too. The 23 artists from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia were chosen for the exhibition by blacksmith/sculptor Craig Kaviar. KWS has been proclaiming the virtues of watercolor since 1977. Some members are so gifted in the medium that they’re called “signature artists.” This means they have been juried into at least three KWS national exhibitions. And without further ado, these masters are Susan Christensen, George Gow, Sue Hinkebein, Stephen Kuhlman, Luci Mistratov, Rita Montrosse, Judy Mudd and Thomas Powell II.
