Ann Klem and Geoff Crowe

The two solo exhibitions in Kore Gallery feature some of my loves: glass and ballet. Ann Klem’s show has a great title: “The Fourth Physical State: Gas, Liquid, Solid, GLASS!” That’s a great topic for STEAM classes. Her sculpture is casted, kiln-formed or cold-worked, quite a leap from years of flameworking. Geoff Crowe’s exhibition “Toe Shoes and Palette Knives” is an accurate description of what visitors see: ballet dancers created with a palette knife, resulting in a not-quite-clear haze of thick paint. That three-dimensional effect of impasto can remind viewers that Crowe also works in sculpture.
