MONDAY, Dec. 7

Apply For Civilian Review Board Online Free  |  Anytime Metro government will be collecting resumes through close of business, Dec. 10 for members of the public who wish to serve on a new board that will help investigate claims of police misconduct, internal reports on police killings and LMPD practices and procedures. Activists across Louisville have stressed the importance of regular citizens serving on the Civilian Review Board — so apply. For those of you who have been advocating for police reform during the protests, here is another chance to use your experience and passion. To be considered, submit a resume and a document of one page or less to your council member stating why you should be selected to sit on the Board. You can send it via email or registered mail. If you need help crafting a resume, several community members have offered up their services in the comments on this Facebook post by poet and activist Hannah L. Drake. You cannot apply if you’re an active member of law enforcement, an elected official, an employee of Metro government or a relative of a current law enforcement officer.

TUESDAY, Dec. 8

La Casita Donation Drive (Thru) La Casita Center Donation based  |  5-7 p.m. The La Casita Center for Louisville’s Latinx community is hosting its last donation drive-thru of the year. Come through to drop off frozen food, especially meat, peas, carrots, chopped onions and bell peppers.

Roots101 Poetry Slam Facebook Live Free (to watch)  |  7-8 p.m. Louisville’s poets are getting together for a slam once again. This installment, hosted by DeepSea Rice, will be streamed live on Maxwell Sounds’ Facebook page. You can also sign up to slam by messaging the group on Facebook.

The Healing Process: COVID-19 Vaccines Facebook Live Free  |  8 p.m. A pharmacist and a doctor answer all your questions about COVID-19 vaccines in this Facebook Live show hosted by Lamont Collins of the Roots 101 African American Museum. 

THURSDAY, Dec. 10

Yelp Perk! Do Good Drink Beer TEN20 Craft Brewery Donation based  |  3-10 p.m. Bring quality food or new clothes, electronics, gift cards and toys to TEN20 Craft Brewery on Thursday, and you’ll receive a free beer. The gifts go to Change Today, Change Tomorrow’s Bless the Block program, which is supplying West End families with holiday presents and dinners. Caravan To Rally At Commonwealth Attorneys Office 1250 Bardstown Road Free  |  3:30 p.m. This caravan and rally, organized by the new group Black Youth Empowered, seeks to hold Louisville police accountable for sexual assault. LMPD has been embroiled in more than one sex abuse scandal in recent years, including within the Explorer Scout program and, more recently, when a Louisville attorney accused Detective Brett Hankison of sexually assaulting her. Black youth are taking their complaints to Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Thomas Wine’s office at 514 W. Liberty St. They’ll be meeting on Bardstown Road to caravan there at 3:30 p.m. with the rally at Wine’s office starting at 5 p.m. 

Wealth Building Educational Session for Black Individuals & Families Online Free  |  4-5 p.m. Noir Black Chamber of Commerce hosts this educational session on building wealth for Black individuals and families through investment planning. The experts are Desmond Robinson, a mortgage loan officer and owner of Robinson Mortgage Group; Sean Smith, a financial advisor with Edward Jones; and John Shaw-Woo, the founder and CEO of the Noir Black Chamber of Commerce. The event is free, but you must register in advance.

#ChangeEducation Online Donation-based  |  Any time Change Today, Change Tomorrow has another location for another program benefitting Louisville’s Black community. This one, #ChangeEducation, at 310 East Broadway, will provide mentoring for children. The nonprofit has secured the building but needs help buying furnishings and educational materials for the kids. Buy an item from their Amazon wishlist.

Coat (And Toy) Drives Various locations Donation-based  |  Times vary Holiday coat and toy drives continue! This week, drop-off a new or gently used coat for locals in need at Leger Investments or any of these four Highland Cleaners locations. If you donate to Leger Investments, you’ll receive 10% off your next stay at its downtown vacation rentals. The Highland Cleaners drive is for families in need at Jefferson County Public Schools. Louisville PTO will match donated coats and Highland Cleaners will clean them. To receive a coat, contact the Family Resource & Youth Service Center at your child’s school. 93NIGHTZ, Inc., a Louisville mentoring program, is also collecting money for its TOYZ 4 TOTZ and Winter Warmth Drive. Your donation will be used to buy gifts, hats, coats, gloves, scarves and socks for local children.
