Norton Commons Art Show This deadline is coming up soon! The 7th Annual Norton Commons Art Festival on May 21 & 22 welcomes over 75 artisan vendors, including talented painters, jewelry makers, soap milliners, photographers, mixed media artists, woodworkers and more. The show takes place at Norton Commons’ North Village Town Square. There will be food trucks, live music and a kids’ zone from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. Deadline is April 1. No fooling. Fire Island Artists Residency (FIAR) The first residency in the United States exclusively for artists identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, intersex, two-spirit or queer, annually accepts visual arts applications for its prestigious and internationally recognized summer program. Now in its 12th season in the secluded beach community of Cherry Grove, New York, a historic LGBTQ settlement of Fire Island, emerging artists will share a live /work space for a four-week program marked by intimate studio visits with, and public lectures by, renowned leaders in contemporary art, scholarship, activism and curation. FIAR provides lodging, studio space and a stipend for meals from July 9-Aug. 4. Deadline is April 15. For more info visit here.
Ploughshares’ Emerging Writer’s Contest The Emerging Writer’s Contest is open to writers of poetry, fiction and nonfiction who have yet to publish or self-publish a book. The 2022 Emerging Writer’s Contest judges are Chen Chen (Poetry), Amelia Gray (Fiction) and Danielle Geller (Nonfiction). Winners in each genre receive $2,000, publication in Ploughshares and a literary agent consultation with Aevitas Creative Management. Deadline: May 15. More info here.
Massachusetts Review The Massachusetts Review seeks submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction and hybrid work for a forthcoming issue spotlighting work by disabled and/or D/deaf artists. Submissions of up to six poems (in one document), or prose of up to 7,000 words, are due by June 1. More info here.
The Hopper Prize The Hopper Prize was established to provide grants, visibility and career enhancing validation to artists who demonstrate a serious commitment to their work. The organization accepts submissions for grants through a bi-annual open call. Each grant cycle is juried by a new team of contemporary curators who select grant winners on the basis of artistic excellence and the promise of future potential. Six spring grants will be $1,000-$3,500. The Hopper Prize is open to all artists age 18 and older working in any media. There is a $40 submission fee due with your application. The Chateau Gallery 'Still' Exhibit Located in the heart of Old Louisville, The Chateau Gallery announces its call for entries for the “Still” exhibit thusly: “The Chateau Gallery’s second annual still life exhibition. From ancient Greco-Roman artworks to Dutch vanitas paintings, the still life has permeated art history for ages. Show us your most inimitable or transformative scenes of inanimate objects. What contemporary elaborations do you add to this lasting genre of imagery? Between wilting flowers and bowls of oranges, what do you bring to the table?” The deadline is May 1.
