South Louisville is getting in on the art walk trend with its South Louisville Art Crawl happening this Sunday, April 10.
This event is part of the new “Arts in Neighborhoods” Initiative. Announced by the Fund for the Arts in February, the Arts in Neighborhoods initiative, “aims to celebrate art and artists who make up the unique regions and neighborhoods across Greater Louisville. Beginning in February 2022, FFTA will co-host a series of Arts in Neighborhoods events alongside neighborhood civic, community, and arts leaders.”
South Louisville is one of Louisville’s most diverse and vibrant communities. This event will highlight that.
“District 21 is a vibrant arts and cultural community,” said Councilwoman George (D-21) in a release. “As part of the Fund for the Arts’ movement, this Art Crawl is the perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on the diverse artists and businesses we have in South Louisville.”
From the release:
“The free trolley tours will make several stops featuring businesses and artists in South Louisville from 2:00-4:30 p.m., then everyone is encouraged to grab dinner and enjoy live entertainment from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Colonial Gardens. Finally, Kentucky Shakespeare’s free performance of Julius Caesar will start at 6:30 p.m. in Iroquois Park.
“‘Arts in Neighborhoods events are unique celebrations of the people and communities that make up our entire city,’ Andre Kimo Stone Guess, Fund for the Arts President and CEO said in the release. ‘The South Louisville Arts Crawl is so exciting to us because so many staples of this community are involved, like Thang Long Grocery, Americana Community Center, Sunergos Coffee, The Rosewater Bookstore, Caribbean Café and Colonial Gardens restaurants. Participants in the crawl get to explore their community, experiencing and taking part in art that ranges from Shakespeare to Cuban trumpet to traditional Appalachian traditions. We can’t wait to see everyone out, celebrating art that’s a part of all our lives.’
“The Art Crawl is sponsored by the Fund for the Arts, Southwest Dream Team, Iroquois Neighborhood Association, Beechmont Neighborhood Association, The Little Loomhouse, Kentucky Shakespeare and Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KFM).
“‘As someone who grew up in South Louisville, I’m excited for this Art Crawl event to showcase the diversity of talent and businesses located here,” said Michelle Amos, Executive Director of the Little Loomhouse in the release. “And having our organization be a part of planning the event is a bonus!’”
