Record Review: Winter of 26 — “By Lamplight”

Simple, atmospheric melodies are the heart of By Lamplight, the debut from Winter of 26. The instrumentation is largely electro-acoustic, with lightly-strummed, reverb-soaked guitars, and shimmering keys providing a lush backdrop for a driving, yet relaxing rhythm section. The star attraction is the vocals, which veer a little into Springsteen territory, if not in timbre then in general tonality. This is Americana, updated with influences like Radiohead, marking an alt-country feel comparable to Wilco. The tracks are radio length and radio friendly, but without seeming saccharine.
