FRIDAY
St. James Art Fair (Sept. 30–Oct. 2)
St. James Court
Free | 10 a.m.
It’s that time of the year again — the time for everyone in the city to descend on Old Louisville and gobble up as much art as their pocketbooks can handle. For art lovers, this is an event not to be missed with over 725 artists (both local and national), and held in the heart of America’s largest collection of Victorian homes.
UnFair (Sept. 30–Oct. 2)
Mag Bar
Free | 10 a.m.
…or maybe the St. James Art Fair isn’t your kind of scene. Maybe you like a little more funk or subversiveness in your art. In that case, you headcase, head to Mag Bar for the UnFair. What started as a sort of protest show for artists who weren’t able to attend St. James Art Fair has turned into a 20-year-old art fair that is it’s own event.
SATURDAY
Germantown/Schnitzelburg OktoberFest
1041 Goss Ave.
Free | 4 p.m.
Germantown and Schnitzelburg are celebrating their Deutsch heritage this weekend with OktoberFest. This neighborhood block party includes a stein relay race, barrel roll contests, a frankfurter-eating contest, live music by Squeezebot and Uncommon Houseflies and, obviously, plenty of German style beer and food. So grab your best pair of lederhosen and enjoy, prost!
Louder Than Life (Oct. 1–2)
Champions Park
$80-$420 | 11 a.m.
This isn’t your usual Louisville music festival, where the bands are a little Americana and a little indie rock. This is a music festival filled with the heaviest, and hardest rock bands in the music business, with a lineup that includes Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Anthrax, Disturbed and my personal favorite, Slayer.
SUNDAY
Louisville City FC Playoff Game
Louisville Slugger Field
$5-$40 | 7 p.m.
Last year, despite having the second-best overall record in the USL, Louisville City FC failed to win the USL Cup in the playoffs. But this year the team came back even stronger, with some added talent, it pulled off another stellar season and clenched a No. 2 seed in this year’s playoffs. So go show some support and help FC defeat No. 7-seeded Richmond Kickers to continue on to the semifinals and eventually the championship.
