Deerhunter
Thursday, Oct. 6
Headliners
An experimental rock band that still packs in plenty of compelling melodies, Deerhunter’s dreamy take on indie isn’t afraid to be all over the place, with splashes of dirty punk, manic pop and just a general disloyal deep dive into the depths of the last half century.
Electric Six
Sunday, Oct. 9
Zanzabar
Born out of the early 2000s Detroit scene that turned misfits into superstars, Electric Six has the sort of weirdo swagger that’s immediately likable, producing something that generally sounds both evil and danceable, like if the bad guys from ’80s horrors movies needed a band for the post-conference afterparty of their annual retreat.
Beach Slang
Wednesday, Oct. 19
Zanzabar
With heavy-swinging gutter poetics and waves of refreshing rock-’n’-roll messiness, Beach Slang isn’t about being careful or exact, which is what makes them so likable — they put everything on the table, in this straightforward way that’s the verbal equivalent of something in-between a really honest conversation and a fist fight.
Boner City
Thursday, Oct. 20
Kaiju
One of the best irreverent punk bands in Louisville right now, Boner City flies through two-minute wild anthems that hit you right in the gut.
Kelsey Waldron
Saturday, Oct. 22
Haymarket Whiskey Bar
Playing throwback honky-tonk, the sort of country music that deals with dirty towns, addiction and desperation, Kelsey Waldron has a melancholic realism about her songs, but the music swings and moves in a way that instantly appealing.
Brenda
Saturday, Oct. 22
ReSurfaced (319 S Shelby St)
Brenda’s “Night School” — a catchy and smart garage-pop record with golden hooks and intricate ideas — is one of the best albums to come out of Louisville in 2016.
Twin Limb (Haplo Release Party)
Friday, Oct. 28
Headliners
The party for the long-awaited full-length from the dark, atmospheric, harmony-driven almost-folk band Twin Limb. If the lead single “The Weather” is any indication of what we’re in store for, the outlook seems solid — it’s another example of how they can bend and manipulate their sound to open up new doors that lead to different worlds of sweeping soundscapes.
YG
Friday, Oct. 28
Mercury Ballroom
A stop on his “Fuck Donald Trump Tour,” YG raps with the sort of attitude-driven intensity that made Compton a rap mecca in the ‘90s.
Haymarket / Zanzabar Halloween Cover Sets
Friday Oct. 28 / Saturday, Oct. 29
Halloween means cover sets, and this year, on Friday at Zanzabar, Twenty First Century Fox will be covering the B-52s, Ville Communications is billed as a supergroup tribute to the Beastie Boys and Vodoo Economics will be doing renditions of The White Stripes songs. And then on Saturday at Haymarket, we have The Winger Brothers as the Dixie Chicks, Projector as Radiohead and Brenda as Pixies.
I Have A Knife
Saturday, Oct. 29
Kaiju
Fronted by Sean Garrison, I Have a Knife combines elements of punk, hardcore and metal into a driving, aggressive, impactful whirlwind that feels like a shot of adrenaline.
