Kaleidico: Zoetic B-Sides

(self-released)

Defining what makes for a b-side is treacherous at best, as the obvious answer seems to be songs that are somehow lesser than the content they may otherwise have been attached to. That’s not the case here with this collection of b-sides from Kaleidico, but instead it documents the band in flux. The Zoetic B-Sides illustrate a band in transition between what they were and what they will become, allowing a deeper look into their collective conscious, both compositionally and tonally. It serves as a bridge between their freshman and sophomore releases, if only by comparatively underscoring their evolution from more acoustic instrumentation to their earliest forays into electronic sounds. Ultimately these songs are more than just sonic driftwood or musical ephemera, though, and they cohere into an equally beautiful whole worthy of its own critical attention.
