5 things to do in Louisville this weekend (11/13)

FRIDAY

Do502 Hip Hop Birthday Party
Mercury Ballroom
Free with RSVP; 8 p.m.
Celebrate Do502’s first year in business by checking out their hip-hop birthday bash in conjunction with Saving our Style (who is celebrating their 10 year anniversary). Drinks by Rhinegeist and live music from 1200, Jalin Roze, Kogan Dumb, Jordan Jetson, Touch AC, Nick B, Playcold, DJ Out Here, DJ Hi Def and DJ Grey.

1st Annual Brews of Louisville Bonfire
BBC East (St. Matthews)
Free; 5 p.m.
Finally, it’s cold enough to start setting large fires without being called a pyro. So, bring your lawn chairs and warm yourself by BBC East’s bonfire, with a beer in one hand and some grub from the Gourmet Dogs and Pollo food trucks in the other. Oh, and did I mention this event is also the official kick-off party for Derby City Brew Bus, a tour company focused solely on Louisville’s favorite local breweries?

SATURDAY

5th Annual Writer’s Block Festival
Tim Faulkner Gallery
Free; 8:30 a.m.
For all you literary geeks out there, this is the event for you. The Louisville Literary Arts fifth annual writer-centric festival starts Friday with the InKY Reading Series at Bard’s Town and continues Saturday with a number of readings, panels and a print fair. And, at 8 p.m., the afterparty at Haymarket Whiskey Bar kicks off with a Literary Death Match.

Open Studio Weekend
All Over Louisville
$20; 10 a.m.
Or maybe the written word doesn’t do it for you quite like a good visual does. In that case, you should cough up the $20 and grab a pass for the Louisville Visual Art’s Open Studio Weekend. One wristband gives you access to over 100 artist studios and a chance to check out some of the best visual arts Louisville has to offer. With so much to see and experience, it’s a good thing this event lasts until 5 p.m. on Saturday, and starts again at noon on Sunday.

SUNDAY

Get Out Louisville 4 Year Anniversary Party
Louis’s The Ton
Free; 4 p.m.
Show some love for the event site Get Out Louisville and come celebrate with some live soul/funk music and delicious samples from Joella’s Hot Chicken, Louisville Cream, The Beer Syrup Company, Ballotin Whiskey and custom cookies and cupcakes from Annie May’s Sweet Cafe.
