October is National Arts and Humanities Month, with Oct. 2-11 dedicated as American Craft Week.

The Artisan Center in Corydon, Indiana, is seeking candidates for a part-time position to manage operations and sales at the art gallery and curate exhibits. Applicants should have a have strong art background, PR/marketing skills and proficiency in PC/Microsoft office. Those interested should send a resume and cover letter to The Artisan Center, 117 E. UofL’s College of Arts and Sciences’ Liberal Studies Project and the Archaeological Institute of America’s Kentucky Society are sponsoring free, public lectures on “Women in the Ancient Mediterranean.” On Thursday, Oct. 8, John Hale, UofL liberal studies director, archaeologist and author of “Lords of the Sea: The Epic Story of the Athenian Navy and the Birth of Democracy, ” is presenting “Cleopatra: An Archaeological Perspective on Egypt’s Last Pharaoh.” His talk will begin at 6 p.m. in Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library.

The American Printing House for the Blind (APH) is presenting “APH Insights 2105,” an exhibition of art by visually-impaired artists, from Oct. 8-10 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Admission to the exhibition is free and the public is also invited to meet the artists on Friday, Oct. 9 from 4:15-5 p.m. (aph.org).

The Louisville Area Furniture Society’s “Functional Design 2015” is at Fresh Start Growers’ Supply, 1007 E. Jefferson St., from Oct. 9-11. The opening reception is Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. (la-fs.com).

The grand opening of Calliope Arts Printmaking Studio, a collaborative printmaking studio and gallery at 324 E. College St., is Saturday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. It will offer classes, exhibitions and a workspace available to learn more about woodcuts, etchings, lithographs and screen prints (calliope-arts.com).
