Since No Salvation dropped last year, Coliseum has without a doubt earned the title of Laziest Louisville band: two European tours, a Japan and Australia leg, a nine-week North American trek with Napalm Death, a specialty 7-inch release on Deathwish Records and even their own custom skateboard (courtesy of Hooligan).
Slackers.
The trio’s May 22 all-ages show at Skull Alley (1017 E. Broadway; 749-9541, skullalley.net) is less of a homecoming and more like the Ride of the Rohirrim at Helm’s Deep in Two Towers. Lords, Mountain Asleep and Rattletooth join this sucker.
Showtime is 7 p.m. $5. Coliseum leader Ryan Patterson says this will probably be the only Louisville show of 2009, as the group starts working on its follow-up due out in 2010.

Toejam
The Summer edition of Toejam 2009 goes down May 24 at Longshot Tavern (2232 Frankfort Ave.); doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the cover is $5. Proceeds benefit the Toejam Musician Support Fund. In a release, organizers say special honorariums will be arranged for Dave Ernspiker of the Big Rock Show, who died last month, and Tim Krekel, who is recovering from serious cancer surgery. On the bill: Basil Evergreen, Big Mike O’Hara, Hogan’s Fountain, Dirty Church Revival, Stonewheel, Alanna Fugate and Merry Pranksters.
Thank you for calling
Last Thursday around 2:50 p.m., I received a voicemail from an irate caller berating me about why Plugged In doesn’t run anymore — that it keeps business going — and added the following: “It’s just as important as all other crap.”
The person, a woman, neglected to leave her name or her number, and seeing as how LEO’s phone system doesn’t show caller ID, I was unable to return her call.
Here’s my response: Ms. Caller, I respect your frustration. I respect the fact that you consider Plugged In vital. I relish the opportunity to explain — and have explained — to anyone who wants to listen why Plugged In no longer runs in LEO. I don’t care what language you speak, who you work for or which band you’re with.
I do not have time for fifth-grade bullshit: leaving anonymous messages, asking questions without giving me the opportunity to offer an explanation, etc. I’m also positive that dozens of theater groups, visual artists and grassroots organizations would wholeheartedly reject your characterization of their work as “crap.”
Louisville, I’m the easiest person to find on the planet. If you have a problem, call me. I will listen.
