Gannett Watch

The big news from Sixth and Broadway last week was, of course, that Courier-Journal publisher Denise Ivey would be leaving as of the end of this year. Ivey, the first female to be chief exec at the newspaper, has been here about two-and-a-half years. She had also been atop Gannett’s Mid-South newspaper division.

Along with Ivey’s departure was that of Barbara A. Henry, publisher of The Indianapolis Star and a top Gannett employee, who is retiring Aug. 1. Their departures were part of a restructuring of Gannett’s Community Publishing Division, which had been divided into five groups and will now be four — East, South, Interstate and West — according to Editor & Publisher. A replacement for Ivey is expected to be named within 60 days, according to multiple published reports.
