Book Smart – Fiction

GILLEY SUIT (CAMOUFLAGE)
By Sheri Wright

If we try to describe him,
we won’t know
the color of his hair,
if his eyes are brown or blue,

no standout feature,
scars or tattoos.

The cashier sees only
the ten dollar bill in his hand.

No one holds the elevator for him.

As a child, he fastened on bits of shadow
from dark places where he hid.

After a while,
uncle didn’t notice him anymore.
