The Bar Belle: Tailgating and taleflaunting

Dec 5, 2006 at 7:21 pm
I was a little late to the party this year — I attended my first U of L tailgate at the last game of the season on Saturday. I never realized that you don’t really need a ticket to the game — you can have a grand old time wandering through the parking lot picking up new friends and free food and drink. Nothing says breakfast better than a Bloody Mary at 9:15 a.m. We high-fived the players, cheered with the marching band, snatched up some of those free yummy cookies and doughnuts and drank ourselves silly awaiting the Cards’ pounding of the Huskies.

If I had the money and good sense, I’d head down to Miami on Jan. 2 for what must be the Ultimate Tailgate. But alas, I’ll probably be stuck here, confined to a bar stool surrounded by four walls … with folks not as willing to share their beer or White Castle stash. Still … Go Cards!

Drink of the Week
In honor of Ms. Britney Spears — who was photographed not once, not twice, but three times (a lady!) last week “accidentally” showing off her freshly-waxed bare beav — I present The Panty Dropper: ¾ ounce of Wild Turkey and ¾ ounce of Rumple Minze — combine with ice and strain into a shot glass. I came across numerous recipes for this cocktail, but this one definitely takes the muffin. Just ask Paris … or Lindsay … or Sharon “I didn’t know they were filming when I crossed my legs” Stone.

Editor’s Note: Beginning next week, The Bar Belle will share her space every other week with Roger Baylor’s From Beer to Eternity column. Roger is owner and operator of the New Albanian Brewing Co. in New Albany (and Rich O’s) and has so much knowledge about beer that he’s itching to share with the world. When LEO editors approached The Bar Belle with this proposal, she replied, “Thank god, writing this column every week has really cut into my drinking time.” Contact her at [email protected]
