While marketed as “Disney,” this is Pixar’s greatest achievement — and their final outing with Der Mouse. While the voice work, particularly Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, Larry The Cable Guy and Cheech Marin, is excellent, the CGI animation literally explodes from the screen, giving vibrant, fluid 3-D life to every frame. A remarkable combination of talent and skill to tell the clever tale of a hotshot racecar (Owen Wilson) who learns a hard lesson about humility and teamwork from the broken-down denizens of a failing desert town. You’ll never look at your own car the same again.

POLICE SQUAD! THE COMPLETE SERIES

Quick trivia question: How many episodes of “Police Squad!” were there? Would you believe only SIX?! But those six episodes reinvented the career of Leslie Nielsen, spawned several hit movies (and a slew of really bad ones), savaged every TV cliché from freeze-frames to shootouts to car chases, and forever killed the boring Jack Webb/Quinn Martin school of police drama. Heralded as the “most offensive and hilarious horror comedy of the year,” this international cult hit begins as a savage spoof of slasher movies, then takes on a life of its own. GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN

For those of you who wondered, after the recent release of “Gojira,” what happened to “Gigantis, The Fire Monster,” the long-missing sequel to “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” Here it is! This set contains both the original subtitled Japanese version (“Raids”) and its heavily edited American version, “Gigantis,” in which The Big G takes on spiny Anguirus in Osaka to the narration of “Star Trek”’s George Takei.

LITTLE MAN

It is just us, or does the world seem to be waist-deep in midgets these days? Once appearing in movies only as the minions of evil villains, they’re now center stage in everything from “Jackass” to “The Station Agent.” In this embarrassingly funny slapstick comedy, the head of Marlon Wayans is digitally pasted onto a dwarf jewel thief who hides out in suburbia as an abandoned baby. Funny as hell with Shawn Wayans and directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans.

LOUDQUIETLOUD: A FILM ABOUT THE PIXIES

After a shocking breakup in 1992, college-rockers The Pixies reunited 12 years later for a reunion tour that sold out every venue it played. This down-and-dirty doc, filmed largely with a hand-held camera, follows them from the rehearsals to the main event, with lots of time backstage. One of the best rock-docs ever.

THE WHO: THE VEGAS JOB

On Oct. 29, 1999, The Who performed at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vega for the first time in 20 years as a five-piece band. With John “Rabbitt” Bundrick back on keyboards and Zak Starkey filling in for the late Keith Moon on drums, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and (the now deceased) John Entwistle’s performance was supposed to be seen live by more than a billion Internet viewers, but a networking glitch stopped the flow. Lawsuits ensued. Finally available on a pristine DVD with all the extras.

WORDPLAY

Surprisingly lively and fun, this is the documentary that everyone was talking about this year: a behind-the-scenes look at crossword puzzles and the Trekkie-like people who are addicted to them. Centers on The New York Times puzzle and its hilariously erudite and goofy creator; an out-and-out hoot, even if you think crosswords suck.
