Brendan’s opens
The former site of Maier’s Tavern, at 3921 Shelbyville Road in St. Matthews, is now home to Brendan’s, a fully redesigned modern pub with a mahogany bar and an Irish flair in its decor. Sporting a robust beer selection and a menu with sandwiches and entrees ranging from $7.50-$14.99, Brendan’s is open until 4 a.m. every day and will begin serving lunch this month. Bristol in Prospect
Bristol Bar & Grille Inc., has signed an agreement with HIPP Enterprises LLC to open a new restaurant in the Prospect Village Shopping Center. The Bristol Bar & Grille Prospect is projected to open in early spring in the site formerly occupied by a Max & Erma’s restaurant, at 6051 Timber Ridge Drive. The new location will be the fourth Bristol in Louisville. —KG

Derby entertaining classes
Louisville Stoneware will host three Derby entertaining classes and a farmer’s market in April. Also, a farmer’s market will run every Saturday through April 29 at Louisville Stoneware. Food classes include April 8, “My Old Kentucky Home Cooking” with Chef Michael Paley; April 15, “Out of the Gates,” focusing on appetizers with Chef Jim Gerhardt; and April 22, “Lunch and Lilies,” focusing on having an Oaks Day brunch, with Chef Mark Williams. Speaker @ Rainbow Blossom
Raw foods chef and author Paul Nison will speak Saturday at Rainbow Blossom Natural Foods store, 3738 Lexington Road. Nison went to an all-raw diet after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and has declared himself completely cured. He now writes books on health and diet and travels the world lecturing on benefits associated with eating a raw food diet. Rainbow Blossom and EarthSave Louisville host Nison’s lecture and book signing, which begins at 1 p.m. Free raw food samples and refreshments will be provided by Rainbow Blossom.
