Charles Venable has been named director of the Speed Art Museum; he will succeed Peter Morrin, who is leaving after 21 years at the museum. A free event will honor Morrin on Oct. 12 from 6-8 p.m. (RSVP by Oct. 5 at 634-2731).
The Mayor’s Office and the Mayor’s Committee on Public Art are working with artist Chris Hauck to bring his entire photography exhibition “ construction — Wall Art: Defining a Post Berlin Wall Culture” to Louisville. A small portion of the work will be shown at IdeaFestival and will remain up for at least six weeks. Hauck is raising money to bring the entire mile-long exhibit here next fall.
Friends of activist/philanthropist Minx Auerbach have donated money to the Speed in her memory, enabling it to purchase “The Most Beautiful Woman in Gucha” by Breda Beban. The New Center for Contemporary Art has it on display.
The Kentucky Arts Council will hold a public arts forum on Oct. 3 at the Brown Theater from 5-7:30 p.m. in recognition of National Arts and Humanities Month.
