The Creative Diversity Studio, which works with artists with disabilities, needs help keeping its doors open; the grants that have funded the endeavor so far won’t cover all expenses, and so additional support is needed. Visit www.creativediversity.org for more information.


Three new galleries have opened in the area recently: The Gallery on Pearl in the White House Centre, 222 Pearl St., New Albany, (812-542-0780) primarily features ceramics; Prada Imports Gallery, on the second floor at 815 E. Market St., (560-0990) specializes in South American art, jewelry and textiles; and Gallery 104, 104 E. The Children’s Free Art Classes of the Louisville Visual Art Association (896-2146) has work on exhibit at the Water Tower: middle and high schools through May 5; elementary schools May 13-26.

Flame Run’s Brook White and the students at Hazelwood Elementary, 1325 Bluegrass Ave., have blown a glass sculpture that is on display in the school lobby.


After cutting 38 jobs, Louisville Stoneware has begun to focus on specialized custom and online orders. It also closed its Oxmoor store but is considering reopening later elsewhere in the mall. The Brent Street facility remains open.


The American Institute of Architects/Central Kentucky Chapter is sponsoring the “Focus on Louisville Metro Architecture” Photography Contest. Artists may submit up to three photographs of the Greater Louisville area, including Southern Indiana, till May 22 (the photographs must be taken between April 9-May 22, 2007).
