Pub crawl patrol

This will be a great weekend to whip your tolerance back into shape. The seven-day binge known to outsiders as “Derby Week” is fast approaching.

Lucky for us, two pub crawls have been planned for Saturday with this very intention in mind, I would assume. Let’s just get all these bullshit givens out of the way now — make sure you have a D.D. or take a taxi or scooter, or, if you live nearby, make sure you remember the safest path to stumble home. Don’t get into fights, don’t scribble on bathroom walls and don’t drunk dial, for God’s sake.

14th Annual
Schnitzelburg Walk

The Germantown neighborhood does little to promote this fun street festival that happens twice a year. Usually you’ll hear it through a friend of a friend. But if you’re a neighborhood dweller, you know the dates just as you know when your trash will be picked up. The cluster of corner taverns becomes drink central, as you make your way from one to another. Music and food (including Flabby’s luscious fried chicken) are side attractions in this march to inebriation. The fun runs from 7-11:30 p.m. And, please, for the residents’ sake, throw your garbage away in the proper place (which is not somebody’s front lawn).

2nd Annual J-Walk

If you find yourself on the other side of the river Saturday, join the enthusiastic and dedicated J-Walkers for their second go-round at bringing more bustle to the small bars scattered throughout Jeffersonville — 10 to be exact. The cool thing about this crawl is you get a free T-shirt if you sign up beforehand (http://jwalkpubcrawl.blogspot.com). I had a blast last year familiarizing myself with all the quaint dives — Buckets and Slammers were my favorites. Best of all, though, a big school bus will shuttle you from bar to bar on your mission to knock back as many cocktails as the night allows. The debauchery begins at 7 p.m. at Bob’s Pub (1005 W. Market St.). Be there or be sad and lonely.
